This project had to be renamed to ‚On Every Other Day‘ from ‚On Every Third Day‘ because unfortunately, the numbers of feminicides in Germany have gone up.
Chapter 1: Noelle
On the night of August 05, 2020, 15-year-old Noelle comes across a random man at the train station on her way home. An hour later, she is dead. According to the investigation, the man first raped and then strangled her to death for at least six minutes. A murder that must be called what it is, a feminicide: women and girls killed because of their gender.
While this case won‘t even show in any statistics and media continuously fails to report accordingly and with due respect, there is an attempted murder of a woman by her (ex-) partner every single day in Germany. On every second to third day it is completed.
This violence doesn‘t happen the other way around regarding gender and it is more than a criminal offense; it is the top of the pyramid of misogyny.
The photographs of this chapter were created in close collaboration with Noelles Mother and sister.

Chapter 2: Svenja
Svenja Beck was almost murdered twice by her ex-partner. It took her a long time and a lot of support to finally free herself from the abusive relationship. From the outside, it may seem easy and clear, but the dynamics of such relationships are highly complex. Perpetrators often come up with excuses and promises to change and the emotional and often financial dependencies or factors like having children together keep women in such relationships.
Today, Svenja has found a loving and calm partner who she raises her three kids with. She founded an organization to help others affected and leads several self-help groups as well as talking publicly about her experiences.
